The Rupe Foundation
The mission of the Dorothy D. Rupe Nursing Program at the Arthur N. Rupe Foundation is to sustain and strengthen certified nursing assistant and home health aide training programs at California community colleges. Grants are awarded to programs providing quality entry-level healthcare training for students, thereby creating economic opportunity for individuals, as well as increasing the availability of CNAs and HHAs in California communities demonstrating a critical need in the workforce.
Since 2000, the foundation has supported Santa Barbara City College’s Dorothy D. Rupe Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide Program, resulting in the training and certification of approximately 115 nursing assistants annually. Grant funding provides for enrollment fees, textbooks, nursing equipment and supplies, certification exam fees, scholarships, and an emergency fund for students. It also provides for a significant portion of the program’s instruction costs. Earlier this year, the Arthur N. Rupe Foundation awarded grants to twelve additional CNA programs. Grants will be used during the 2013-14 academic year with an objective of preserving at-risk programs, increasing enrollment capacity, or administering program improvements.
